Back from DSA 2022 Exhibition

We are back, after taking part in the Italian mission at the 17th edition of Defense Services Asia (DSA) 2022, in the Malaysian capital, for four days, full of events and business meetings.

The futuristic venue of MITEC (Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center), an exhibition area of ​​38,000 square meters, hosted over 1000 exhibitors and military and civil delegations from almost 50 countries. 20 countries were represented by a dedicated pavilion including Italy.

Italy’s pavilion” sponsored by ICE, the Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies, was particularly successful, thanks to the accurate design of the exhibition space, and to the high content level of the 20 Italian companies present with their own stands. The institutional profiles who took part to represent Italy:

  • the Italian Ambassador to Malaysia, Massimo Rustico
  • the Deputy Secretary General of Defense and Deputy National Director of Armaments, Admiral Dario Giacomin,
  • accompanied by the Defense Attaché of the embassy Capitano di Vascello Cesare Petruzziello and
  • Filippo Fusaro, director of the Italy Trade Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

As per the Italian Ministry of Defense press release “the most advanced technologies in the defense and security field were exhibited, such as systems for the protection and management of operations on aerial and maritime platforms, electronic warfare, sensors, ballistic protection systems that attest to their high technological value of the Italian industry “.

Interesting opportunities have emerged for Eurocontrol for future projects in Malaysia, both for naval retrofit and mid-live upgrades – MLU (check our naval sector solutions) and submarine new projects developments through European partners (check our underwater section).

Kuala Lumpur’exhibition was one of the firsts international meetings since the outbreak of the pandemic and has finally allowed all those who at different levels deal with regional and international defence and security issues, policy makers, academic research groups, representatives industry, to start collaborating again.

The next edition for this globally recognized event as an entry point for the Asian market, will be the 18th DSA and the 3rd Natsec Asia from 6 to 9 May in 2024.

Still waiting for a definitive date, of the 16th edition of LIMA, the International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition in Langkawi (Malaysia), as well as the largest trade fair in the sector in the Asia Pacific region.

This biennial event, since 1991 has involved a truly remarkable number of representatives of the defence and armaments industry, naval engineering and the aerospace sector.

An Italian pavilion had been planned for the LIMA 2021 exhibition edition which was cancelled due to Covid, we now look forwards to the rescheduling of the final date of the next LIMA event and of Italy’s participation organizing. Stay tuned!
